Growing New Apple Tree From Pruned Cuttings

Cuttings will create numerous trees that are hereditarily identical to the "parent If you prune an apple tree,(which I did ) or if a branch breaks off, nothing has got to go to waste. Of course I’m not going to waste my precious pruned apple cuttings that can be used to make a new plant or clone to a new tree. While I have enough cuttings from my pruned apple tree’s  so why not try to experiment propagating apple tree from branch/pruned cuttings!

Now how to go about things. Put cuttings in water until you are ready to plant them, so that they don't dry out! There is rooting hormone available, good and pricey, and works like a charm, but I don’t have it. It is also said that Weeping Willow tree or shrub of the willow family with the scientific name”salix” can be made a Willow Tea to make rooting hormone used to propagate plant cuttings. And, best of all, it’s free. Willow bark contains natural plant growth hormones; namely, indolebutyric acid and salicylic acid, but I don’t have it either but definitely will try it. So let us used my raw natural unpasteurized honey (2 tablespoon mix in 1 cup of water where all my branches and stems of apple will be stay in for about a week.

Plant cuttings directly into soil, where you want the tree to grow, or into giant pot, ensuring the noded section of new tree-to-be is well covered in earth. (FYI all stems I planted has no roots at all before I planted)

Stake the tree well so that the cutting will not be at all moved by wind. Or placed it in safe fenced area.

Water well and keep moist. The roots will grow all through the rainy months, and be established as soon as it produces more leaves.

Keep tree well watered specially during  summer, (don’t over water in rainy months) be sure not to let the new roots dry out. Keep the tree well-watered for the whole summer, in order to get it established.

And voila! You have a nice new apple tree! And it didn't cost you any money at all! Just TLC and patience more of it!

As you can see, this technique is very simple, and you can use all the cuttings left over from the pruning of fruit trees to propagate more apple trees. Its better than tossing out, mulching or composting the prunings, and if the cuttings fail, then you can do that. At best, you’ll end up with more trees to plant in your garden.

Farmville FROM VIRTUAL TO REALITY

Many of us Play's as virtual farmers on facebook where the famous game start.  The game ‘FarmVille’ (now it has Farmville 2) has become one of the most popular Facebook games because it combines giving the players the chance to simulate working on a farm -- harvesting crops, raising livestock, etc. -- while also being a part of a community within Facebook where those playing the game could socialize and communicate with your friends.

We'll how about make this game into reality!  Farmville inspire garden with those cute tags, animal character and post, that's what I really love in Farmville =)

We are still in the making with the help of my niece (we love to paint and do some arts & crafts). We have starting to plant more herbs and vegetable. It may not be perfectly farmville but I'll be glad to share it with everyone =)

We hope to really take these game mechanics into reality the elements that motivate and inspire people to continue into an action, and plug them into a  productive and good activities (like…actual farming). I think if you can apply these same principles like the games itself not only in virtual world but into a reality! It will help you and our environment that it would make a ton of difference.

Apple Tree in the Philippines

Have you ever wish to have an apple tree in your backyard? Or is there anyone wish to have an apple tree in  the Tropics like Philippines? Being a tropical country is it really possible? Have you ever tried to grow apple tree from seeds collected from an apple? Well the answer is all Yes!

I still cant believe, that I actually got it to grow from the seed! Five years ago when I tried to grow and collect seeds from a grocery bought apple (fuji apple) the big, crispy juicy sweet variety. I successfully germinated the apple seed and now my 5 years old tree is growing and propagated 8 more trees through air layering.  Apple trees respond well to air-layering propagation. I planted those seeds and they germinated! Apple seeds need to experience a period of cold stratification before they will germinate. They receive that naturally if it’s left up to nature, in colder place in winter season.  Mature seeds sometimes dont need to be dried out before planting, I've just tried a few seeds and after some week it germinated thats become my first apple tree 5 years ago.  But a few weeks ago i have germinated seed from the inside of apple fruit itself (really germinated from the core of an apple)  I accomplished it by letting the fruit to stay about a week in the frige really no intention to propagated it but luckily when i checked and try to see if my apple still ok to eat, when I cut it in half the seeds already sprouting. It is germinated because of the same cold conditions for the seeds of an apple to grow.

Gardening is one of my passion, that's why  I fascinated to try to grow apples here in the Philippines, got an apple tree obsession =)

Although my infatuation in growing apples is not only for their beautiful, delicious and healthful eating properties but how i successfully grown it in the Philippines, apple trees only have one purpose in growing them: propagation. Inside the core of each apple are tiny chambers, each bearing a single apple seed. Each apple is an apple tree's latest attempt at continuing its species. Apples that fall to the ground and wither away, uneaten, eventually deposit their seeds into the ground that’s where wild apple is around in some area with winter cold climate. Apples that are eaten inevitably have their seeds discarded in other ways, through which they may also find their way to fertile soil.

I’ve heard and read that the seeds of apples harvested from hybrid apples,can not produce the same fruit. Most of the fruit you get from the super market cannot produce a new tree with the same fruit variety when planted from the seed and sometimes wont even bear fruit. Still I’m really having a great time growing apple trees that might someday produce tiny purple apples or big peach-colored fuji apples or even a red and yellow, sweet and crisp apple much better than Red Delicious and Virginia Ralls Janet where fuji was cross pollinated. It may be a small or sour dud's and very disappointing apple , or it could be the next wonder apple someday.

Is your dog your best friend? Lots of us feel our pets specially dogs are our friends. They offer us unconditional love and support when we feel down, when we’re having a “bad hair day” or when we feel like dancing around the room! Are there many other best friends who can do this?

Sweet, docile and affectionate, it's little wonder that when it comes to puppies, Golden Retrievers invariably leap to mind that's one thing i really love to the golden's. Yes, all puppies are cute and adorable, but when it comes to Goldens, they're in a class of their own. There's something particularly heart-melting about these bundles of wriggling blond fur, with their oversized paws, soft brown eyes, alert tails and, of course, velvet floppy ears.

My dogs are not trained but they know when I need their help, that's came a unique bond we have. Its "putitang", I gave this unique call to my loving golden retriever Apoline, shes a 4yr old pal,she thrive on close to human companionship, and want nothing more than to put a smile on my face. I have 5 dogs (golden Retriever) its 6 just before my male dog Oliver died (oliver is apolines dad). Just got 3 more adorable dogs 2 years old male Samuel "baboo" Samantha "sam" Samira "bulilit".  But got this unique special bonding to apoline (i mean all my dogs are special in their own unique ways).  She is the youngest and the smallest of the batch (1st ) of 5 babies and only 3 pups were alive and the other 2 is died when it came out, but a couple of days the other pup's didn't make it too.  When my dog Clara "dada" got pregnant, and the remaining 2 out of 5 pup's dada really give extra effort making her way to give the extra love and care after her lost to the other puppies (shes the best mom!) she got this big fat and cute puppy (really cute) I named her Agatha "atang" but the other puppies which i named Apoline small body, short legged seems not healthy pup's compare to her sister agatha, looking at her...just like it can't live much longer and survive (my hearts in pain) But Ive been inspired to do what ever it takes to try to make her live, every morning I wake up around 2am in the morning to see if shes getting milk from her Mom, gently pressing her moms nipple to her mouth,  because shes not strong enough to grip and hold her Mo'ms nipples, with a small mouth at that time, and the worst part is her sister agatha keeps on pushing her away dragging and rolling every time agatha's changing nip's routine. My family told me that it would be miracle if that small dog will survive, but i guessed it's really miracle of how my dogs grow (oh yah! it really grows way big!)

My love of dogs has ebbed, flowed, and evolved over the years. I had some mongrel dogs when I was younger and have only become a "crazy dog lady" as an adult. Putitang has become my best friend. I know she understands my grief/anxiety and stress. I don't have to explain anything to her, I can just "be". Every time she looks at me with wise brown eyes and doesn't judge me. The comport and wonderful feeling is beyond compare.  I trust her and she is always there for me. She comforts me and is always by my side. One thing that i find her special is every time i cry she will give you a helping "paw" she will reach your hand or shoulder as if she's telling you "I'am here for you" she wants you to hug her when you cry, and when she feels that your getting fine she will stay near you staring from time to time, just like checking if your gonna cry again. She even extend her support to my loving friend Lyn, when my friend Roselyn is in her deeply crying pain when her Shih tzu died (fluppy) I really shocked when apoline jump in the sofa and seated between us cuddling and licking Lyn's face, when she saw the tears on her face and when Im almost got to cry apoline give her best sympathetic heart warming cuddle to my friend because  fluppy is part of our family too became one of apolines friend.  Not just for crying thing she even control me every time i get mad (especially with my younger brother and sisters) lucky for them co'z apoline dont want me to get mad, when my pitch is on a higher note, shouting or seeing my face on a angry grim my girl pal is on the rescue.  That's why every time my bro and sis did something wrong they always put apoline around me hehehe.Comfort-seeking, she would be more likely to approach me as her usual source of comfort, their owner she really can calm me down and cheer me up, even i closed my door inside my room she will bark and keep on calling me to let her in, she really an easy if she's not sure of my condition. She is a loyal girl. I feel safer when she is around and she follows me around the house, do gardening, walking, jogging swimming (that's her fave) as if the feeling like protecting me.  I'm just really happy that I have her in my life and that this bond has formed. She is more than my friend! She is my everything and I am so happy to have her in my life. She's on my side right now and sleeping leaning safe, secure and comfortable in my lap. =)
